Ramadan Appeal 2009

Assalamum Alaikum,

Ramadan Mubarak! We at IMRC pray that you are under the shade of Allah’s mercy, in the circle of his generosity and in the remembrance of His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Today we wish you, your family, and all Muslim communities our sincerest best wishes for this the sacred month of Ramadan. During this blessed month, Muslims will fast, pray, reflect and contemplate. Ramadan is not only a time for family and friends, but a time to remember those who are less fortunate today. Alhamdulillah, as we all know, it is through fasting that the servant of Allah (SWT) is better able to understand the plight and trial of the hungry throughout the world. Every year, IMRC tries to support needy families in India during Ramadan, thanks to your Zakat, Fitra and other generous donations.

FIDYA:
For those who are unable to fast (elderly, sick, handicapped, etc.) a compensation must be given by feeding a poor person for every day of fasting not observed. This is known as Fidya. The price of Fidya for each day of missed fasts is either to feed a poor person two meals in a day, or to give whole wheat, which is enough to feed a poor person twice in a day (1/2 Saa per Hanafi school of thought, or 1 Saa per Shaafi and other schools of thought). (1 Sa = 3 Kilograms approx.)
The Fidya price for one who has to pay it should be calculated based on the local prices of whole wheat in the place the person resides. The price for Fidya in the USA is $3.50 by the Hanafi school of thought, and $7.00 according to the Shaafi and other schools of thought.

KAFARA:
If a person breaks a fast in the month of Ramadan without valid reason, he or she is liable to fast for 2 consecutive months. If one cannot fast, due to valid reasons then he or she must feed 60 deserving people 2 meals or give them the equivalent amount in money.

IMRC’s Ramadan Feeding Program
Last year in Ramadan, IMRC had a goal to provide 1 million meals. Alhamdulillah, we exceeded this amount and were able to provide 2 million meals! This was all through your generous support. Provide Suhoor & Iftar meals to the needy through IMRC’s Ramadan Poor Feeding Program. It costs just $1 a day to feed one person in India. You can feed an entire family of 4, the whole month of Ramadan, for just $100. IMRC can distribute your Zakatul-Fitr among the poor in the form of grains or in local currency. Fitra is just $7 per person.

Clothe A Child This Eid
Delight as many poor children as you can with a new pair of clothes this Eid for $10 per child.
